My Choice – Life After Sixty

Although I begin with a health story and I speak about health, diet and exercise, this is not a health blog. This blog is about the choices we have from the age of 60 onward. How making choices, or not, will effect what is left of our life. I will begin with a ‘choice story’ that has had a strong effect on my lifestyle.

When my numbers for blood pressure and cholesterol went up, so did the quantity of the medication I was taking. A simple remedy that had continued for the last ten years.

Eight months ago the cardiologist, who was responsible for my medications retired. My general practitioner recommended a new, young cardiologist in her building.

My number were climbing slightly, therefore I made an appointment. I expected the usual outcome – increased medication.

Instead my new cardiologist said to me:

‘You do something about it.’  I recommend you take a look at the book:

‘How Not To Die’ by Michael Greger. And then she left the room.

The choice to change my diet was the path that led to why I write this blog.

The amount of choices we can make once we move into the later part of life are exciting and frightening.

There are no life crutches as we age. Suddenly we find ourselves with a lot of free time. It is possible to feel the day with searching for our purpose, clubs, volunteering and chatter. But the one thing I find many of us do not do is stop and really look at the remaining life choices we have before this wild and fascinating life comes to an end. This blog is about stopping and exploring our choices, it is not about keeping ourselves busy.

About Me

Hi – I’m Jill. A woman in her sixties who loves the opportunity as I get older to make my own choices based on experience, research and travel. Some choices are mandatory, but some are pure free will choices. This blog is about aging and making choices – health – travel – family -exercise – spiritual, to mention but a few. I hope you join me in conversations and share the abundance of opportunities we have as we age.
